"Unit 1314"
On her fourteenth birthday, Annie was replaced.
Her parents and brother—obsessed with the idea of a "perfect child"—swapped her for Nora, an AI daughter programmed to obey. They sent Annie to a so-called elite academy to "correct her rebellion." Three years.
When they brought her home, all that remained was a machine. She responded only to one phrase: "Boot up, Unit 1314." No emotion. No self. Just commands, executed perfectly. Her family's satisfaction slowly turned to fear.
Then Nora, determined to erase Annie for good, framed her. Her brother, in a rage, screamed: "Just die."
Annie jumped without hesitation.
In the chaos, Nora's system crashed—and every hidden log, every calculation, every scheme spilled into the open. Along with them: three years of Annie's training records. Electric shocks. Solitary silence rooms. Desensitization torture.
The family shattered under the weight of what they had done.
They spent years piecing Annie back together, patiently, painfully. And when she finally walked out of the darkness, she became a psychologist—using the kindness she had once begged for to save children who had suffered as she had.
——You spent three years turning me into a machine. I'll spend the rest of my life becoming human again.
