"Laney Hayes, New York’s top securities litigation attorney, was once known as “The Closer” — a name that struck fear across Wall Street. Two years ago, she retired for love and married Kai Hale, a white-collar defense lawyer, only to be reduced in his eyes to nothing more than a stay-at-home housewife stuck in the kitchen.
Kai’s first love, Maren, an international supermodel, returned after her divorce. She feigned vulnerability, cut herself to frame Laney, and staged an incident where both women fell into the water. Kai believed Maren time and again. Even when Laney was drowning, he chose to save his first love without hesitation. After the final diamond was returned, Laney’s heart died. She quietly filed for divorce and returned to Hartwell.
When the truth came out, Kai realized he had destroyed the woman who loved him most. He withdrew from representing Victor mid-trial, then gave a live broadcast interview in Times Square, presenting all evidence to clear Laney’s name. Afterwards, he desperately tried to win her back. Consumed by jealousy, Maren manipulated public opinion and ultimately drove her SUV straight at Laney. Kai pushed her out of harm’s way and was severely injured in the crash — yet his sacrifice still could not earn Laney’s forgiveness.
