Counterattack: The Fae Contract

Maeve Donnelly, a half-fairy, was obese, ugly, and covered in acne in her previous life. She was exploited by her pure-blooded fairy roommate, Seraphina, who drained her blood, and met a tragic death in a hospital bed. After being reborn, she awakened her fairy bloodline and bonded with a fairy spirit. Starting as a Gray Feather, she continuously advanced in rank through trading, professional reputation, and the Arbitration of Destiny. She enlists Aiden as her romantic strategist to manipulate public opinion and expose Seraphina’s hypocritical facade; she rescues Lachlan from a car accident but deliberately refuses to acknowledge the debt of gratitude, forcing him to investigate on his own, ultimately making him a key witness in the Fate Arbitration. She moves into Cordenham Manor and forms an alliance with the half-fairy writer Rowan Hart, using his new book to expose the history of pure-blood fairies exploiting half-fairies. Attorney Callum Stewart provided a legal loophole, helping her initiate arbitration with the Fairy Council.

Seraphina was forced into retreat at every turn; her Silver Feather shattered, she lost all her destiny, and was ultimately exiled. Maeve ascended to Silver Feather and Blue Feather, eventually entering the Eye of Destiny to undergo the Golden Feather trial. During the trial, she experienced ten lifetimes, searching for her true self in each one. She passed the trial, becoming Edinburgh’s sole Golden Feather—ruling over all fairies and enjoying a life of luxury and splendor. But her mother, Moira, suddenly fell ill, and the Elders informed her that the only way to save her mother was to sacrifice the power of her Golden Feather and revert to a Gray Feather. Maeve looked at the castle and her mother, then nodded in agreement. When the Elders asked why, she replied, “I care about power, but I can’t become someone I’m not just for the sake of power.” The Eye of Destiny opened its golden pupil and congratulated her on becoming a true Golden Feather.
